Job Description:
The Department of Aeronautics and Astronautics at Stanford
University invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position
at all levels (Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor).
Appointments will be made at a rank commensurate with experience
and accomplishment.
Advances in multiple technology areas hold promise to overcome
major aerospace engineering challenges including zero-emission,
sustainable concepts for future flight, vastly improved,
energy-efficient and reusable space access, and safe and
trustworthy autonomous systems with AI/ML in the loop. To meet
these challenges, we are seeking exceptional applicants who will
develop a program of high-impact research and contribute to an
innovative undergraduate/graduate curriculum. Special consideration
will be given to candidates in the areas of propulsion (broadly
interpreted to include conventional aircraft and spacecraft
propulsion, electrification, and sustainable aviation fuels), fluid
dynamics/aerodynamics, and aircraft design. We will place higher
priority on the impact, originality, and promise of the candidate's
work rather than on the particular area of specialization within
Aeronautics and Astronautics.
An earned PhD, evidence of the ability to pursue a program of
research, and a strong commitment to graduate and undergraduate
teaching are required. A successful candidate will be expected to
teach courses at both the graduate and undergraduate levels and to
build and lead a team of graduate students in PhD research.
All candidates should apply online at . Applications should include
a brief research and teaching plan (3-5 pages total for both
combined), a detailed resume including a list of publications, and
the names and contact information of three to five references. We
will request letters of recommendation after candidates are
short-listed. The Department of Aeronautics and Astronautics,
School of Engineering, and Stanford University value faculty who
are committed to advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Candidates may optionally include as part of their research or
teaching statement a brief discussion of how their work will
further these ideals. Additional information about Stanford's IDEAL
initiative may be found here:
In order to receive the best possible consideration, please submit
your application by Wednesday, December 18, 2024, when the review
of files will begin. Applications submitted after Friday, January
